Colorado: Global Village Academy, a charter school with a strong emphasis on language learning, will be opening a new facility in Colorado in August, 2013. The academy will be enrolling children from kindergarten to fourth grade and will then add grades as children advance through their studies. The Global Village Academy is known for its language immersion program, where children are exposed to several different languages which they are expected to pick up as they learn English.
About the Global Village Academy
At the Global Village Academy, students are taught Spanish, Mandarin Chinese or German, an approach which is expected to foster an international sense of being, while developing respect for diversity and pride for each student’s own culture. The academy aims to provide a liberal arts curriculum through which children can become literate in one other language apart from English.
About Language Immersion
The language immersion method follows the means of learning a second language in the same way all humans learn their first while growing up. Students spend their school day surrounded by the second language of choice, which has proved to be an easier way to learn than more traditional techniques of language teaching. Research shows that children who get a language immersion education have better academic results than those who are educated in just one language.
