Recent years have seen a progressive increase in localization needs together with a diversification of the target languages that localization companies have to work with. Two reasons for this are the growth of new economies such as those in the Middle East and the development of technology accompanied by a profusion of games for mobile devices. Companies have had to modify their procedures to keep up with the trend while guaranteeing quality.
According to several localization companies, the increase in the requests for localization projects has come accompanied with shorter periods of time to work on them. Games have lowered the use of text, but given more games are released every day, the jobs required are usually short and are needed fast.
Apart from working with languages like French, German and Spanish, companies have started working with languages like Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Korean and Thai, among others. This is directly related to the growth of certain economies in the world, like that of Brazil or China.
Localization companies have admitted that keeping up with the quality standard has been a challenge. To accommodate for the changes in the world and the requirement of the clients, they have admitted to have changed their practices to operate in a different, faster and more efficient way.
