Mistranslations - Chicken Murder

Sale Of Chicken Murder

While this isn’t a terrible mistranslation per se, it is a bizarre sign. Right away a native English speaker would recognize that the store is selling processed chickens, however, the wording is a tad bit disturbing. Of course, we’re sure PETA would argue that this sign is absolutely correct. While the original Arabic translates to “selling slaughtered chickens,” a proper advertisement would read as: “selling processed poultry”. This brings up an interesting idea of the power of euphemisms. Perhaps Chicken Murder is the correct idea, but the words are a bit brutal. This store obviously should have hired a native English speaker to double-check their work.
