These days, if you need to get access to anything online, we can guarantee that an app exists for it. This fact is no different when it comes to wanting to learn a new language. There are so many tools and resources out there to choose from, but of course, there are a few language apps that stand out.

Our Day Translations post today explores some great languages you can use to get started on your new journey to learning a new language or refreshing your memory for what you already know.

Let’s dive right in!

Top Language Apps

Duolingo

Duolingo is a completely free app that offers its users the opportunity to learn a wide range of languages. One of the good things about Duolingo is that it allows you to learn more than one language at a time. This platform offers 37 languages in total for you to choose from and includes some very unique languages such as Kligon.

The model used by Duolingo is very fun and engaging. The interface presents much like a game and features the very popular parrot Duo, which is the avatar that takes you through your lessons and language levels.

Because Duolingo is a free app, it compensates for costs by including ads in its user experience. However, you can pay a small monthly fee to enjoy the app ad-free.

Babbel

If you’re looking for an all-round, in depth experience when learning a language that also includes cultural components specific to different countries and regions, then Babbel is a great choice.

Babbel’s user interface for both the app and its web page version has a simple layout (similar to what you’d find in an online course), that makes going through the content much easier. Bby taking this minimalist approach, it also makes learning less overwhelming.

Typically, Babbel lessons are 15 minutes per day and you get hands-on experiences for pronunciations and identifying verbs through its audio options.

Memrise

Memrise is as real as it gets when it comes to speaking a language like the natives do. This is because of the apps’ unique use of videos to show native speakers of a language expressing different phrases in their conversations.

With Memrise you’re exposed to tone of voice, and ‘natural’ pronunciations of words and phrases along with the literal translations for them as well as their gendered uses.

There is both a free and paid version for Memrise and it offers 23 languages for you to choose from. You’re also able to use both the web version as well as the mobile app version, depending on your preference.

Mondly

If you want to start having active conversations quickly in your new language, then Mondly is the language app to get you going. This platform uses an innovative approach to help users on their language learning journey by focusing on phrases as opposed to single words.

The innovative approach that Mondly takes involves hearing how native speakers speak and the ability to practice your conversations with speech recognition AI chatbots who help you through the learning process, giving feedback where necessary for continuous improvement.

One of the good things about Mondly is that it doesn’t take the approach of teaching a language from the standpoint of English only. Instead, it allows you to learn from the perspective of any of the 33 languages it offers.

Of course, there’s a free version of Mondly that only offers a limited amount of lessons. If you want full access, there’s a subscription that’s on place.

Rosetta Stone

Rosetta Stone is popular worldwide, and is among some of the best-known language learning apps. Of course, back in the day it didn’t havean app, but it has gotten a full face-lift and is now completely modernized.

This language app comes with quite a few modes that offer different learning styles for users. Users are also able to input their preferences for the ultimate learning experience.

Rosetta Stone is also equipped with AR/ Augumented Reality features where you can simply point your phone to an object and you can receive a translation into the language you’re currently learning.

There’s a heavy auditory component attached to Rosetta Stone, but even if you learn in other ways because there are other traditional learning features available.
