Jio made things different during its beta launch, releasing the 4G services only to the company's partners, 35,000 worldwide employees and their families. They also invited several Bollywood celebrities for the launch. They named actor Shah Rukh Khan as their brand ambassador. Guests included Javed Jaffrey and Ranbir Kapoor (actors), Rajkumar Hirani (filmmaker) and A. R. Rahman (musician).
In the first month after its commercial launch in September 2016, it welcomed 16 million subscribers, which was the fastest in the world. It reached 50 million subscribers after nearly four months' operation. They surpassed the 100 million mark within five months and within one year of service, about 130 million people enjoy Jio's wireless communication service.

They lost about 9 million subscribers while Jio gained 13.1million new subscribers, with most of them being heavy data users. From being a secondary SIM card, Jio is now fast becoming the first SIM card.
Wireless communication is a prime business in India, due to the size of the nation. India's population in 2018 is about 1.359 billion, with an annual growth rate of 1.19%.
