Social media allow people to connect with each other, as well as share information and updates. Aside from regular users, companies also take advantage of this to promote their brands and get more customers. But what if you tried joining social media to let people know about your business but it didn’t work? Well, there might be something that you are doing wrong. You can find several guides on how to use social media for promoting your business. But have you considered learning about the social media mistakes that you need to avoid? This may be the reason why your strategy is not working. Let’s go through some of these common mistakes to make sure that you don’t do the same.

Too Frequent and Infrequent Updates

As the saying goes, too much of something is bad enough. It’s also not good if it’s not enough. This applies to your social media updates. If you post every minute or every hour of the day, this could make your followers feel that you are spamming them. Infrequent updates is also something to avoid because people would forget you if they don’t hear from you. So what’s the best thing to do? Do a little research to determine what time your potential clients usually check their accounts. Do your posting around that period so it would be on top of their feeds. This would ensure that they would see your posts without having to spam them.

Posting Unrelated Content

Don’t just post anything on your social media account for the sake of posting something. It should be something related to your niche that your followers would find interesting. Posting random things may confuse your followers on what line of business you are in. It’s important that they know so in case they need any of your products or services, they would have you in their minds.

Not Interacting with Customers

It would not be called “social” if no interaction is made. This is a two way street so you don’t just post things that you want your followers to know. You should also learn how to listen to them and communicate with them. Read their comments and feedbacks and let them know that they are heard. Address negative comments and complaints with professionalism, respect and humility. Let them know that you are working to resolve their concerns. Answer any inquiries as this would make them feel that they are special. Ask questions and encourage them to engage in the discussions.

Focusing on the Number of Followers

Who wouldn’t want to have millions of followers? But quantity doesn’t always equate to sales. Why? What if you have several followers but only few of them are interested on what you have to offer? Instead of focusing on growing the number of your followers instantly, why not work on reaching out to people on your specific niche and gradually grow those followers?

Sounding Automated

Put warmth and fun to your posts. It would be easier to connect with people if you show them your “human” side. Forget about those canned responses and talk to them as if you know them personally.
